What is Child Sexual Abuse?

* Child sexual abuse involves forcing,
tricking, bribing, threatening, manipulating
or pressuring a child into sexual awareness
or activity.  The abuse often begins gradually
and  increases over time. Abuse occurs when
a person forces a child to have any form of
sexual contact or makes a child perform
sexual acts. Non-physical abuse may take the
form of an adult exposing himself, exposing
the child, or inappropriate talk of a
sexual nature. Sexual victimization of
children may occur within the family (incest)
or outside the family.

* Child sexual abuse is an agonizing and
traumatic experience for its victims.

* Child sexual abuse is a crime punishable by
law.
